2 children dead, their mother and others injured in Boyle Heights crash involving sheriff’s vehicle

The collision involving the sheriff’s department vehicle caused the deputy to run off the roadway and strike three pedestrians, LAPD Officer Drake Madison said Friday morning.
The pedestrians were a mother and her two children ages 7 and 9, Madison noted.
One child died at the scene, while another was pronounced dead at the hospital, Madison explained.
Their mother was in critical condition, Madison said.
Meanwhile, the vehicle that collided with the sheriff’s department vehicle, struck a third vehicle and injured two adult pedestrians in the crosswalk.
“A total of eight people were transported to local hospitals,” Madison said.
There were five people with minor injuries, including the two sheriff’s department deputies, Madison noted.
The collision remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, Multi-Discipline Collision Investigation Team.
